View Full Version : M: Evidence of bone density improvement: calcium, magnesium & BioSil reducing gaps between teeth in 1 week.
December 2008 update: calcium supplements are suspected to promote prostate cancer. I am currently researching whether or not this applies to good calcium supplements balanced with magnesium? Or just to calcium in general which implies primarily calcium carbonate? At any rate, men should not take more calcium than they need. I would argue that if the spaces between your teeth are loosening, then you may need more calcium. Currently I am taking only 1 chewable calcium citrate and 1 multi-mineral tablet, plus magnesium and organic silicon. I also take comprehensive prostate support supplements. (I will post more updates here after I have more information.)
Recently a gap appeared in my teeth, so badly that it became painful to chew on one side of my mouth. I am not talking about pain from the teeth--but pain from the gums having food jammed into them.
I decided to take extra calcium-magnesium citrate. Within one week, the gap in my teeth has narrowed and I can chew again! Please note that for adults, extra calcium supposedly can not do much for the teeth. However it certainly can help the jaw that supports the teeth. I was suprised by such fast and clear results, and that is why I am posting this article. My dentist says this may just be a coincidence, that teeth often move for no apparent reason. Nonetheless, it is my feeling that the extra calcium is responsible. My teeth have shifted in the past, but I suspect that also was related to my being less strict about taking calcium. If you see that this article has been here for awhile, you can assume that my improvement has lasted.
However, kidney and gall stones are a possible side effect of calcium supplements. Thus, for bone support supplements, I had to juggle two opposing considerations. I decided as follows. For the exact names of the supplements I use, see chapter M of my website:
http://HolisticReview.com/m
Please note that I am only taking 1/2 the label suggested doses of calcium. However, I believe in synergy because of taking several different things. The value of synergy is to increase effectiveness while reducing side effects. Additional synergy factors are: eating plenty of salads or vegetables, hormone balance, exercise, B complex, moderate vitamin D or sunshine, and cider vinegar. For details see chapter M of my website:
http://HolisticReview.com/m
With evening meals, 6 days/week: 1 chewable calcium-magnesium citrate wafer. Or 1/2 tablespoon Liquid Health brand calcium. Research indicates that calcium taken with meals is less likely to settle in soft tissues.
With evening meals, 4-5 days/week: 1 chelated calcium or multi-mineral tablet. I alternate between calcium threonate (BioCalth), Krebs Cycle Chelates, and Albion bisgylcinate chelates. If I had to choose just one, it would be Krebs Cycle Chelates because it is a complete multi-mineral formula.
With evening meals: 1 BioSil organic silica capsule. Supported by clinical testing to improve calcium absorption to the bones. Also, organic silica is an extract of horsetail, a folk remedy, possibly preventive for kidney stones and gall stones. (Therefore, I also usually take 5 drops of liquid BioSil each morning.)
Any time in the evening: 1 Krebs Cycle magnesium-potassium. Calcium should only be taken in the evening because the night time is when calcium is absorbed by the bone. Extra magnesium helps this process. (If you have difficulty digesting tablets then try instead 1 Magnesium-Potassium Aspartate capsules by Now Foods.)
Any time in the morning: 1 more Krebs Cycle magnesium-potassium. (Or 2 Magnesium-Potassium Aspartate capsules.) The day time is when calcium is released into the blood and tends to form stones. So, extra magnesium in the morning helps to prevent any extra calcium from settling-out. Potassium is not essential for this purpose, but it just so happens that a magnesium-only pill does not contain significantly more magnesium than a magnesium-potassium pill.
Reduce Mezotrace or Coral Calcium to 60 pills per year. Mezotrace does miracles for the bones but on the other hand, contains calcium carbonate which is at high risk for settling. Because of wonderful results I have experienced, personally and among friends, I do not want to stop taking Mezotrace. However I think 60 tablets per year is enough. After trying Coral Calcium, I think Mezotrace is better. If you believe in Coral Calcium, I respect this but it is also a carbonate. In my view, the total of all carbonates should not be more than 1 pill per day and a total of 30-60 pills per year.
Note: 100 mg. potassium is only 3% of the Daily Value established by the US FDA. However do not take potassium pills if you have kidney disease or are prescribed with potassium-sparing diuretics. As always, if you are on any medications, also keep your doctor informed about whatever supplements you are taking.
Krystof, what do you think of the Solaray - Magnesium And Potassium Asporotate for the chelated magnesium-potassium pills that you suggested? My dad has osteopenia and the doctor prescribed oyster shell calcium pills which I don't think are working. My dad already takes 14 pills a day so I thought I would simply it for him since I already bought some liquid calcium for him. What do you think of this:
With evening meals, 6 days/week: 1 tablespoon liquid calcium-magnesium citrate.
With evening meals, 4-5 days/week: 1 chelated calcium (Krebs Cycle Chelates)
With evening meals: 1 BioSil organic silica capsule.
Any time in the evening: 2 Solaray - Magnesium And Potassium Asporotate pills.
Any time in the morning: 2 more Solaray - Magnesium And Potassium Asporotate pills.
Thanks for your help and post.
To Molo and anyone interested: I have updated my suggestions for the best magnesium-potassium. Also I have removed my previous replies because they were too long. I think I can now do better as follows...
Best magnesium: Krebs Magnesium-Potassium by Enzymatic Therapy. Supplies 250mg magnesium and 100mg potassium per pill. This is almost twice the chelated magnesium and potassium as in any capsules. This also contains a small amount of magnesium malate which is renowned for special properties.
If having difficulty digesting tablets: Magnesium-Potassium Aspartate by Now Foods. This is easier to digest but only 1/2 the dose per pill.
Magnesium-Potassium Asporotate by Solaray, as mentioned by Molo, is "probably" a good product. However I can not recommend this product because it is expensive and is not 100% chelated. This contains orotates and hawthorn, which is a good idea for someone who is seriously concerned about cardiovascular health. However if you do have such a concern, I would not fool around with small amounts of second-rate orotates or hawthorn. Instead get the NCI brand of pure orotates endorsed by Dr. Hans Neipper. Also get a standardized hawthorn pill, or hawthorn tea bags, or a "heart support" supplement that includes more substantial hawthorn.
All of this of course would have to be in addition to the basic Krebs Magnesium-Potassium. However please note that 1 Krebs Magnesium-Potassium tablet replaces 2 Magnesium-Potassium Asporotates by Solaray. Therefore if you take 1 Krebs Magnesium-Potassium plus 1 "heart support", then I think you receive better potency in the same number of pills. If orotates are desired, you can alternate between NCI Magnesium Orotate pills and a hawthorn or heart support supplement by Enzymatic Therapy or Now Foods. Even though only taken half the time, the total orotates and the total hawthorn will both be far better than by taking the Solaray Asporotates. Or you can focus on NCI Magnesium Orotate pills while drinking hawthorn tea regularly.
(The possible benefits of orotates are based on relatively early research by Dr. Niepper, before the use of magnesium became popular. The possible benefits of chelated magnesium are similar and are now well established. I also believe strongly in the use of fibrinolytics, i.e. "edible pipe cleaners" such as bromelain, serrapeptase and nattozyme, which was pioneered by Dr. Niepper and continues at the forefront of holistic research. However I do not know whether additional benefits might be gained from orotates, or whether this might be outdated. I would welcome any comments and references on this question.)
(I believe that the reason Molo tried the Solaray "Asporotate" is because on my website, I misspelled "Aspartate" as "Asporotate". I must apologize for this error. My thanks go to Molo for inspiring more research. Fortunately the Solaray "Asporotate" is a pretty good product. There is no harm in finishing whatever may have been purchased.)

ReprintPrint Email Font ResizeRoadshow: Slow trek on Highway 101By Nike Shoes (http://www.offerdunks.com)grichards@mercurynews.comPosted : 11/19/2009 12:00:00 AM PSTQ When I got on Highway 101 around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, traffic was flowing through San Mateo County. Right before the carpool lane starts in Redwood City, traffic started building and didn't get resolved until near Highway 85. So I exited Lawrence Expressway and grabbed dinner to let traffic ease. I'm not really seeing much of an impact or improvement with the signals. "... My commute Tuesday night from Woodside Road to San Antonio Road was better. There were definite slow spots, but at least we kept moving. "... How did your test of traffic on 101 with the metering lights turn out Tuesday night?Vicki L., Erin Callaghan and Steve CastroA Slow. Very slow. The trip from Embarcadero Road south to Brokaw Road took 39 minutes, and it was bumper-to-bumper almost the entire 13 miles. This compares with 42 minutes on Monday, Nov. 2, before the metering lights were turned on, and a snappy 27 minutes on Nov. 9, the first day lights began working. Tuesday was faster with meters on, but not as fast as I hoped.Traffic on Tuesday is almost always heavier than on a Monday, and highway watchers say I should have expected the trip to take at least an extra five minutes from my 27-minute test a week earlier.Meters at Embarcadero and Oregon Expressway weren't much help. It took three minutes to clear the light, but another six minutes to get onto the freeway. There are threeAdvertisementramps within a short distance, and the lights need to be slowed more to move traffic after the meter.Puma shoes (http://www.pickpuma.com) were no problems at Lawrence, San Tomas and Montague expressways. But Central Expressway had long backups. How bad? Read on.Q I usually drive on Central Expressway to De La Cruz Boulevard and then to 101 south. But no more! Ever since the metering lights went on, everyone is using Central as an alternate. Traffic seems to have tripled on Central between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.John LuebbenA Traffic officials will issue a report early next year on the impact of the lights and recommend possible changes.Q I travel from Great America Parkway to Highway 87 and have noticed that they have decreased the red time on the Great America ramp lights to 101, letting cars onto 101 at a much faster rate. It does seem smoother, but it still bunches up at the entrance to 87, mostly due to all the cars entering 101 at De La Cruz and those cars having to cross drivers exiting 101 at 87 (me). But I see an improvement from no lights. "... Metering lights absolutely work. Heading south on 101 from Hillsdale Avenue in San Mateo, the commute is now 10 minutes shorter going to Palo Alto compared with pre-metering lights.Mark Davidson and othersA Some beg to differ.Q I drive every day from Ellis Street to I-680. What used to take me 30 minutes to get home now takes up to 50 minutes. I think the lights have created more congestion. "... The flow of traffic between Mathilda Avenue and the 87 exit seems slower. Often my speedometer is at 10 mph or less. So I'm not happy with the meters, which have increased congestion.Ashley Harper and Mike McPhersonA And "...Q Since the 101 metering lights have been turned on, it appears that more people are using Interstate 280. My commute between El Monte Road and Highway 92 on I-280 seems to have gotten worse. Does Caltrans show a shift in traffic from 101 to 280?LawrenceA It's too early to tell. But Rich-the-San-Mateo-County-Man said if some drivers are taking 280 instead, "that is not bad because there is more available capacity on 280 than on 101."Q Do timberland boots (http://www.sale-boots.com) know if there will be metering lights at 3rd Avenue onto north 101? This is an awful merge of two ramps onto 101 and causes a backup all the way to 92.Prashant ShahSan MateoA Yes, meters will be added in a year or so north of Highway 92 if the state budget mess doesn't delay funding. Northbound lights will also be added at Peninsula Avenue, Broadway and Anza Boulevard. Southbound lights will be added at Broadway and Poplar Avenue.

4. Some Great Golf GiftsThere are some golf gifts such as the famous taylormade r9 irons (http://www.ebayoyo.com/1142_TaylorMade-R9-Irons.html) that any golfer will appreciate. Ishiner If you can get someone vouchers for a round at their favorite course, then they will most certainly enjoy that. Usually, vouchers are good for a round of 18 holes, but many courses will allow them to be used in batches of 9, making them ideal gifts for even casual golfers. If you are buying vouchers, make sure that you buy them at the right rate - if your friend qualifies for a certain discount, often vouchers will be available at that rate too.
