I do not yet have a fixed opinion on the benefits of fluoride for teeth.
My own teeth seem to be wearing down,
and my dental hygenist believes that topical fluoride will help.
Also, the basic fact seems to be that fluoride has greatly reduced
the occurance of cavities in children.
However, the last I checked, some people were raising doubts
that systemic flouride was necessary or even helpful.
Essentially claiming that systemic fluoride replaces calcium in the bone matrix,
thus making the bones more brittle.
This seems to be a well accepted side effect, but doctors feel secure that it is insignificant at standard doses. Nonetheless I think it is reasonable to ask whether systemic fluoride is necessary at all, and if not, history shows that it is generally wise to avoid non-nutritive chemical additives.
While cavities have decreased, there is an epidemic increase in childhood cases of cancer, autism, and allergies, for which doctors claim that they do not know the reason.
Common sense would suggest that pollution is involved.
However more direct than pollution would be non-nutritive chemicals that we purposely ingest.
It is essential that these be 'guilty until proven innocent'.
I intend to research this with the following questions in mind.


I have repeatedly read that the bones of ancient Romans and other cultures show almost no cavities. Were they taking fluoride or were other factors involved?
Is topical floride effective enough for children, or is systemic supplementation necessary?
Is there any chemical difference between fluoride in supplements and naturally occuring fluoride in water?
Are there any natural toothpaste products which contain an especially natural version of fluoride?
Might optimum supplementation of calcium, magnesium, and organic silica offer a similar level of cavity reduction effects as systemic fluoride? If so, is it possible that there are then no added benefits from fluoride?
